Most couples who come to us arrive with one of these situations — or a version of them.
Communication has broken down
Every conversation either turns into a fight or fades into silence. You've stopped saying the things that matter because you know how it'll end. The words are there but the connection isn't.
You feel like flatmates, not partners
You're managing a house, a schedule, maybe kids and careers — but somewhere along the way the intimacy disappeared. You share a life but not really each other anymore.
There's been an affair or a betrayal
Trust has been broken. You're either trying to hold it together on the outside while everything's fallen apart on the inside, or you've said out loud what you've been carrying alone. Either way, you don't know where to go from here.
One of you wants to leave
Or has already checked out emotionally. There's a gap between you that feels impossible to cross from one side alone — and you're not sure the other person even wants to try.
You've been drifting for years
Slowly, quietly, without either of you quite noticing how far it had gone. You're not in a crisis exactly, but you know you're nowhere near where you want to be. And you're not sure you remember how to get back.
Success hasn't fixed it
You've built a great career, a good life — and your relationship has been paying the price. The tools that work everywhere else don't seem to work here. You're driven, capable, and genuinely stuck.
If any of that resonates — even a little — let's talk.

We see couples in person at our practice in Havelock North. If you're based locally — Hastings, Napier, or anywhere in Hawke's Bay — coming in person is often the natural starting point.
There's something about being in the same room together, in a space that's genuinely neutral, that can shift the conversation in ways that don't happen at home. We've seen it many times. If you're local, this is worth considering.

Online Across New Zealand
We work with couples across New Zealand via secure video — Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Dunedin, and everywhere in between, including couples in rural areas who'd otherwise have limited access to this level of support.
Online sessions use the same methodology and produce the same results as in-person. You meet from your own home, at a time that works for your schedule. Many couples actually find it easier — there's no travel, no arranging childcare, and both people are on equal footing in their own space.
If you're anywhere in New Zealand, this works. We've been working online with couples for years and many of our most significant breakthroughs have happened this way.
The Aroha Rapid Transformation Method
Most relationship help focuses on what you're doing — better communication, managing conflict, learning new scripts. And while those things matter, they're not where lasting change comes from.
What Grant and I have found is that the real shift happens at a deeper level — who you're being with each other, not just what you're doing. The context you're operating from. The story you're carrying about yourself and your partner, often without realising it.
When that shifts, everything else changes naturally. That's why this approach works faster than traditional therapy and produces results that stick — because we're working at the source, not the surface.
More about our approach"We're the best we've ever been in 28 years. We've learned to understand ourselves, each other, and how we can work together as a team and take on the world." — Conor, 2024

Questions About Couples Therapy
Standard sessions are 60 minutes. Some couples find 90-minute sessions more useful, particularly in the early stages when there's a lot to cover. We'll work out what suits you.
For most couples, we start with weekly or fortnightly sessions. As things settle and you build momentum, many couples move to monthly. We'll design the rhythm around what actually works for your life.
Either works. Many couples start with one person — often the one who reached out first. One person shifting how they're showing up changes the dynamic more than you'd expect. We'll talk through what makes the most sense for your situation.
That's one of the most common things we hear. Most couples who come to us have already tried something. What we do is different — we work at the level of being, not just behaviour — so people who've been through years of traditional therapy often find this lands in a way that previous work didn't.
In over twenty years of this work, the couples who make it aren't the ones with the smallest problems. They're the ones who decide to try. If you're still asking the question, that matters. The free call is the right place to start.
Yes — and it works. We work with couples in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Dunedin, and across New Zealand via secure video. The methodology and the results are the same as in-person. Many of our most significant breakthroughs have happened online.
